NSCS Recap: At long last! Johnson wins 200th for owner Rick Hendrick

DARLINGTON, S.C. -- DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Finally!
After months of frustration, Jimmie Johnson gave Rick Hendrick his 200th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory, running away from the rest of the field on a green-white-checkered-flag restart that took the Bojangles' Southern 500 one lap past its scheduled distance.

On Saturday night at Darlington Raceway, Johnson ended his own winless streak of 16 races, a drought of relative epic proportions for the five-time champion. The victory was Johnson's 56th, breaking a tie with Rusty Wallace for eighth on the all-time list. (Read more)

DARLINGTON, S.C. -- For Joey Logano, Friday night's victory in the VFW Sport Clips 200 Nationwide Series event at Darlington Raceway was tinged with regret.

Yes, Logano drove away from Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin after a green-white-checkered-flag restart to win his second straight race in the series and third of the season. (Read more)


Darlington Raceway Made Stock Car Racing A Modern Sport

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 9, 2012) – NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series history began in Charlotte, N.C. on June 19, 1949 with Jim Roper’s victory in a 150-mile race over the 3/4-mile dirt Charlotte Speedway.

At Darlington, Trouble Lurks Around Every Corner

From any angle, whether you’ve been there once or 20 times, Darlington Raceway is a challenge.
The racing line is narrow, the asphalt aged and the chassis set-up that works well in one set of turns is a compromise – at best – in the other. Competitors in Saturday’s 63rd Bojangles’ Southern 500 will be racing at speeds of more than 180 mph on a track where the pole speed was 85 mph for 1950’s inaugural event. (Read More)
