Mark Day to drive Memphis Busch
race for Kevin Harvick Inc.
By Terrell Davis
Winning the NASCAR Late Model Championship at the historic Fairgrounds
Speedway in Nashville has apparently earned Mark Day a trip to Memphis
Motorsports Park to race in the Sam’s Town 250.
Day confirmed he has been contacted by Kevin Harvick’s Busch race team
about driving Harvick’s number 33 Busch racecar in Memphis on October
28th. The deal has come from Nashville based Dollar General Stores
Operation Big Chance where the driver with the most points in either the
Late Model or SuperTruck division at Music City Motorplex got an
opportunity to drive one of Harvick’s Craftsman Trucks at a Martinsville
race next season.
“I was asked if I would be interested in racing in the Memphis Busch
race,” Day said. “I told them I’d be more interested in that than driving
in the Truck race at Martinsville, but they indicated it may be possible
for me to do both.”
Day said he was waiting to hear back from Harvick’s people as to when he
would go to the race shop in North Carolina to be fitted for a seat.
Speculation from Day was that he would fly to North Carolina the first
week of October.
“At this point I haven’t signed anything yet, but I think it looks pretty
good,” he said.
David Underwood from Music City Motorplex said everyone at the track was
excited about the deal and the notoriety that both Day and the Motorplex
could receive.
“This is really great,” Underwood said. “For someone to get this kind of
opportunity from racing at Music City Motorplex proves that there
continues to be opportunities for drivers to move to the upper divisions
of NASCAR by racing at the Fairgrounds in Nashville.”
